STORMFRONT – JAMES V. BROWNSON, INAGRACE T. DIETTERICH, BARRY A. HARVEY, CHARLES C. WEST

Written by webmeester on . Posted in Boeke

In keeping with the aims of the acclaimed Gospel and Our Culture
series, StormFront investigates how the gospel intersects American
culture and seeks to reorient the church to its full and proper
missional vocation. Four authors noted for their understanding of
modern church life offer a sober yet hopeful critique of American
culture that focuses on consumerism and the privatization of religion,
and they challenge the Christian church to embrace its corporate task
to be salt and light to the world.

Amid the many books on the subject, this one is distinctive in its
concern for application. By constrasting contemporary life with a
thoroughgoing reading of the biblical narrative, the authors help
American Christians discern how our cultural location makes it
difficult to live out the transformative message of the gospel. Few
readers will fail to be engaged by the lessons offered here.

RURAL EVANGELISM – KEVIN E. RUFFCORN

Evangelism needs to emphasize faithfulness to God’s call to
proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ, using the talents and resources
available. A broader understanding can free congregations to dream big
dreams and to see new possibilities. They do not need to feel compelled
to evaluate their efforts in terms of large increases in membership.
Rather, says Pastor Ruffcorn, such congregations can emphasize both
inward and outward aspects of nurturing their own members and reaching
out to their neighbors. This can be done by words and through actions
in an intentional and relational manner.

ROBUST CHURCH DEVELOPMENT – MIKE REGELE

This book sets forth the vision, the principles and the practices that,
if embraced, will see your regional body on its way to a robust church
development effort – one that is effective today and will withstand
continuous shifts in the mission environment over time. Mike Regele’s
2002 study of church development activity in U.S. denominations found
surprisingly little evidence of focused, effective work. Yet, hidden in
the research, a path to effectiveness was discovered in what we call
the 10 Best Practices – these development activities that most
positively correlate to success.

REVOLUTION – GEORGE BARNA

World renowned pollster George Barna has the numbers, and they indicate
a revolution is already taking place within the Churchone that will
impact every believer in America. Committed, bornagain Christians are
exiting the established church in massive numbers. Why are they
leaving? Where are they going? And what does this mean for the future
of the Church? Using years’ worth of research data, and adhering to an
unwavering biblical perspective, Barna predicts how this revolution
will impact the organized church, how Christ’s body of believers should
react, and how individuals who are considering leaving (or those who
have already left) can respond. For leaders working for positive change
in the church and for believers struggling to find a spiritual
community and worship experience that resonates, Revolution is here.
Are you ready?

MISSIONAL CHURCH – DARRELL L. GUDER

Written by webmeester on . Posted in Boeke

The result of a three-year research project undertaken by The
Gospel and Our Culture Network, this book issues a firm challenge for
the church to recover its missional call right here in North America,
while also offering the tools to help it do so.

The authors examine North America’s secular culture and the
church’s loss of dominance in today’s society. They then present a
biblically based theology that takes seriously the church’s missional
vocation and draw out the consequences of this theology for the
structure and institutions of the church.

Part 1, “The God Who is Worthy of Praise,” focuses on God and on
what worshiping God actually means. Part 2, “Reflecting God’s Image in
the World,” addresses a range of church-related issues that arise from
the activity of worship.

Based firmly on sensitive and creative readings of the biblical
text, For All God’s Worth is an inspiring call for renewal in the
worship and witness of today’s church.
